About Orchard Village

Find out more about the Major Works in Orchard Village

Orchard Village in Rainham is a vibrant, modern community made up of a mix of low-rise and mid-rise housing blocks. The estate comprises several residential blocks providing a combination of social rent, shared ownership, and private homes, alongside local shops and community facilities.

Sunflower Court's New Biodiverse Green Roof

The new biodiverse green roof at Sunflower Court (Phase 1) has now been successfully completed, marking an exciting milestone for the Orchard Village improvement programme.
The first green shoots are already beginning to emerge, showing the roof is starting to establish itself. Designed with a combination of gravel, soil and stone, it will create valuable habitats for plants, insects and other wildlife, helping to enhance biodiversity and support a greener, more sustainable Orchard Village for years to come.

Roof renewals

Sunflower Court and Snowdrop Court, originally rebuilt in 2012, began experiencing ongoing roof leaks reported through our repairs team in late 2024. Investigations confirmed that the original green roof design and construction had led to widespread system failure, with core samples showing water penetration throughout the roof build-up. Following these findings, a full roof replacement project was planned.
Planning permission has been secured, and extensive stakeholder and resident engagement has been completed to ensure the works are delivered smoothly and with minimal disruption.

Local voices

Councillor Matthew Stanton provides an update on the progress of works at Orchard Village, discusses ongoing communication with Clarion and WPS, and encourages residents to attend his monthly surgeries at Mardyke Community Centre on the first Tuesday of every month from 9:30am.
You'll also hear from an Orchard Village resident, whose feedback highlights why listening to residents' voices remains at the heart of improving the community.

Come along to share your feedback, ask questions, and discuss local issues—we're here to listen.

Sustainability

The Orchard Village green roof project demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability by reinstating a biodiverse green roof that improves biodiversity, creates habitats for wildlife, and helps reduce pressure on the local drainage system by absorbing rainwater. Sustainable practices also included reusing compost from the original green roof for new planting and installing a falcon box to encourage natural wildlife and help manage pigeon populations. These improvements not only enhance the local environment but also provide long-term benefits for residents and the wider community.
